Our families are the temples where God takes precedence

May the Lord bless you with peace and health. It is 4th June 2021. We reflect from Tobit

May the Lord bless you with peace and health.

It is 4th June 2021.

We reflect from Tobit 11:5-17; and the Gospel from Mark 12:35-37.

The beauty of marriage is family.  We are all blessed with families and emanate from it whether it is functional or dysfunctional, good or bad, fruitful or fruitless, contented or confused.

Family is the design and dream of God for humanity to sustain, support and survive in love, hope, forgiveness, and peace.  Wealth and pleasure alone cannot hold the strings of family but relationships and reunion.  Most of us are in contact with each other in our families not in connection with one another.  The formal and fancy ways of relating with one another in our families are creeping and augmenting our relationship like fibroids in a healthy womb not allowing the life to bud forth.

His holiness Pope Francis teaches us, “marriage is the life-long journey, the husband and wife aren’t alone, Jesus accompanies them.”

We reflect the reunion of a family in the first reading.  Reunion and coming together brings physical healing and strengthening the bonds of love among the members of family.  Beyond procreation and recreation, there is so much creation of love and gratitude in the environment of encouragement, appreciation, acceptance, and tolerance.

Our families are the temples where God takes precedence.  It is our constant effort to make the place for God in our families only then we experience the divine accompaniment as that of the angel Raphael in the family of Tobit and Anna, Tobias and Sarah.

May our families be surrounded in prayer, generosity, patience, love, and forgiveness so that we lead our families from darkness to light, doubts to faith, brokenness to wholeness.

Every family is a gift to the humanity in fulfilling the plan and purpose of God.  May we think of the family members we have forgotten due to work, career, choices, and differences.  It is time to call them today to be in touch with them.  May the Lord continue to bless our families.  Have a lovely day.
