It is 9th February 2021.
The readings are from Genesis 1:20-2:4; and the Gospel from Mark 7:1-13.
“God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” (Gen.1:28)
The crown of creation is humanity. The total expression of unselfish love of God manifested in creating us endowed with every good God could entrust with. Instead of being grateful to God for making us the persons God wanted to be, we begin to cut out a god that fits us by ignoring the laws of creation and nature. We are here on earth out of love God’s love. We are misfocused and overly concerned about things we have created for our convenience. God created everything good and for the good of humanity.
The responsorial Psalm acclaims, “O Lord our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth.” (Ps.8:2).
There is a certain amount of revolt against God in most of us. We want our way to be God’s way. At times we dictate God what God must do to be loved by us forgetting we exist and inhale God’s breath by God’s mercy. Human fraternity cannot be divided over the notions of God. God is found in humanity and in creation not in our convenient rules, rubrics, and restrictions with selfish and hidden agenda. “Then he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God to keep your tradition.” (Mk.7:9). Let us continue to enhance what has been entrusted to us by God and make our human family, community, and world a better and peaceful place to live. Have a lovely day. God bless you.
