It is 5th January 2021. The readings are from 1 John 4:7-10 and the Gospel from Mark 6:34-44.
God’s love is immeasurable and immensely poured into our hearts through Jesus. God continues to love us even when we choose to forget God at times. God expects us to show our love to God by loving one another.
In the first reading, St. John confesses that loveless people do not want to know and acknowledge God. It can happen to a family, a religious community, or in a workplace. We are born again and again anew when we love the other. The difficulty in loving others come when we wilfully hate someone for some reasons, or no reason figured out. Love is life and without love there is no life. There is no happiness without love. Love cleanses from all sins and always sings a hymn of praise of the other. We are born with love and it is inherently infused by God in every human being. There is no child born devoid of God’s love. God creates every child in love and out of love. God still cares for us by giving His Beloved Son Jesus to us in the Most Holy Eucharist. “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 Jn 4:10).
Hunger changes everything in life. Noticing hunger in others is the highest spiritual connection. Jesus felt the hunger of the people in the Gospel. Hunger for the Word of God and the hunger for love were identified by Jesus. Sharing our food with someone cannot happen just like that. It depends on our openness, generosity, sensitivity and sharing. There is no love without sacrifice. Jesus invites us to share what we have with those in need. Refuse to notice the hunger in others is evil and selfish to the core. Wasting food is wasting God’s love for the suffering humanity. There are so many hungry and exhausted persons in our families, communities, and countries. Let us not close our eyes to them. Jesus repeats the answer to us all today: “You give them something to eat.” (Mk.6:37). Unless we become intimate with the others in need, we cannot initiate any good things for them. There is no one born empty of love. Time has come to be generous because we all are enjoying the generosity of God every moment of our life. Let us treat the others as God has treated us in love.
