The readings are from 2 Sam 7:1-5, 8-12, 14, 16; and the Gospel from Luke 1:67-79.
God prefers living in us than what is made by human hands. God does not want a special place to separate and seclude Himself from us by being in a place of honour. God is so strongly and intimately present in each one of us as God’s loving and healing presence in the Sacraments.
David had a plan to build a place for the Lord, but God changed his plans. We plan for our lifespan, but God plans for generation with a meticulous care and concern. God promised David that God would dwell amidst the people of Israel as a father to God’s people. “The Lord declares to you that the Lord will make you a house. I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me.” (2 Sam.7:11, 14). God visits us with all the choicest blessings. There is nothing to worry, panic and fear whatever is unfolding around us in our families, and in the world at large. It is the time of visitation from the Lord who cares, loves, and forgives us no matter whatever we have done to God or failed.
The responsorial Psalm praises, “For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.” (Ps. 89:1).
The hymn of praise from Zacharia highlights the visit of God. “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has visited his people, he has come to their rescue.” (Lk.1:67). He thanks God for having the person of Jesus. Christmas without Jesus is meaningless. May we spend this moment in silence as the Lord of the Universe, king of peace and our Saviour is going to be born in our hearts.
