It is 10th December 2020. We celebrate the memorial of Our Lady of Loreto.
The readings are from Isaiah 41:13-20; and the Gospel from Matthew 11:11-15.
There is nothing to fear when the Lord is nearby. “Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” (Is.41:10).
At times, no one believes that we have a God who cares not scares. Whatever the situation we are in today whether it is sickness, financial stress, relationship struggles, or whatever the challenges and issues we face, we are gently reminded and assured that we do not need to panic and be afraid. We can be a dry land and our life may be a desert, yet God promises us all that God reinject hope and all blessings. When people of Israel had to cross the Red Sea, God strengthened them, ““Do not be afraid, stand firm, and see the deliverance that the Lord will accomplish for you today.” (Ex. 14:13). God promises that whoever is harassing us and torturing us will be dealt by God. Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid; for God has come only to test you and to put the fear of him upon you so that you do not sin.” (Ex. 20:20). There are innumerable places the Lord strengthens and tells us to believe in Him. “Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. (Lk. 12:32)
The responsorial Psalm praises, “The Lord is kind and merciful; slow to anger, and rich in compassion.” (Ps.145:8).
The tension between the disciples of John the Baptist and Jesus is brought out for our reflection. Jesus confesses, “Truly I tell you, among those born of women no one has arisen greater than John the Baptist.” (Mt.11:11). The role of the John the Baptist was so special and unique being a herald of the Lord. We become fearless when we play our role genuinely and sincerely for the Lord. May the Lord grant us the courage to face it all without fear. Have a lovely day. God bless you.
