It is 23rd September 2020. We celebrate the memorial of St Pius of Pietrelcina (Padre Pio), Priest. My most favourite saint and intercessor. He encourages us to pray before we brag about anything. “Have patience and persevere in the holy exercise of meditation; be content to begin with small steps till you have legs to run, better still wings to fly.”
The readings are from Proverbs 30:5-9 and the Gospel from Luke 9:1-6.
Life is the one-time chance to live a life of truth not a multiple attempt to prove our lies.
God’s Word purifies and filters our dichotomised decisions in following the Lord.
Neither extreme piety nor penance make us better people but moderation and mediation in promoting peace and giving chance to peace by holding our tongues and joining hands with friends and foes.
Peace comes when we are ready to face our truth with openness without commercialisation and contamination of any ideology.
The awareness of the presence of God is the proof of peace we enjoy with one another that unlocks the knots of poverty, falsehood, and sickness.
The first reading strengthens our belief in God and invites us to trust in God’s Word. More the lies in our life, less the blessings surround us. Arrogance aggregates in our hearts filled with lies. The day we realise that we can live without God, we have begun to lead a life of lies.
The responsorial Psalm praises, “Your word is a lamp for my steps, O Lord.” (Ps. 119:105).
We reflect about the missionary mandate and demands of Jesus for all those who want to continue the mission on earth. The simplified life that puts entire trusts in God and be satisfied with what one has is the requirement for the mission. Jesus empowers us to reach out many who are weak, worried, weary, and wavered. “He gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.” (Lk.9:1). Jesus is our only resources for our mission and our faith is the treasure we need to share with one another in charity and mercy. May God help us to be transparent and transforming the community around by constantly disconnecting from the lives of lies. God wants to reach out someone through you and me. Have a lovely day.
