It is 17th February 2015. The Readings are from Gen.6:5-8; 7:1-5,10 and the Gospel is from Mk. 8:14-21. The first reading reports us that humankind is growing in wickedness and God’s reaction to it. Human beings were growing in evil day after day. God is so sorrowful to see what is going on with human beings. “And the Lord was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to His heart.” (Gen.6:6). Our sins hurts God; our evil makes God to grieve; our wickedness brings so much pain to God. Either we tease and tear God by our sins, or we please and praise God like Noah. We are invited to emulate Noah today. The Responsorial Psalm assures us, “The Lord will bless his people with peace.” (Ps.28:11b). The Gospel speaks about the impact of the wrong teachings. Yeast in the passage means the evil teachings by the persons who lead in our communities. It is the radical, fanatic and hard heartedness of the leaders which spreads as the yeast all our community. As the yeast has the power to be pervasive so the evil in our lives. We too notice the lack of understanding and lethargy among the disciples. Jesus has done more than one good thing, yet the disciples were very slow in knowing the power of Jesus in their lives. Let us remember always what Jesus has done in our lives and continue to believe that He is capable of repeating those good things in our lives. May God bless you and have a good day.
