It is 01st March 2015. It is the Second Sunday of the Lent. It is also the Reconciliation Sunday. The readings are from Gen.22:1-2,9a, 10-13, 15-18; Rom. 8:31b-34 and the Gospel from Mk. 9:2-10. The first reading presents the total obedience of Abraham to God. This event is a protype of God the Father and His Son, Jesus. Obedience to God is not so easy and spontaneous. It requires courage which comes through faith. Obedience to God means giving up something we are deeply in love with. When we obey God, we are so highly blessed just like Abraham was. Letting go for God is indeed a challenge and a lesson to take into consideration from the first reading. The second reading reassures that God’s unshakable promise and blessings to us. “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31b). God has gone even to the extent of giving his only beloved Son, will he not give us anything we ask? So many times we think that God would not bless us because we are not up to God’s expectations. The Responsorial Psalm encourages us, “I will walk before the Lord, in the land of the living.” (Ps.116:9). The Gospel brings out another mountain experience, the Transfiguration. Jesus revealed His divinity and as the beloved Son of God. There is a reference to Jesus’ death and resurrection. God spared Abraham’s son but not His own. That much is the depth of God’s love for us. In turn, we are to show our love with obedience to God during this Lent. May God bless you and have a blessed day.
