It is 15th March 2015. The readings are from 2 Chr.36:14-16,19-23; Eph.2:4-10 and the Gospel from Jn. 3:14-21. The first reading is a reminder for us all about a compassionate God who repeatedly invites us through His messengers to listen to Him and to repent. When we provoke God with our sins, we are seriously punished by the same loving and compassionate God. Repeatedly, God is working with us and expecting some spiritual renewal from us. God is capable of blessing and punishing us. The second reading encourages us to believe that God who is merciful, still at work in our very selves through grace. “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Eph.2:10). We have nothing to boast before God. Our salvation through grace must result in the acts of service to continue the good that is begun in our faith. The responsorial psalm sings, “Let my tongue be silenced, if I ever forget you!” (Ps.137:6). The Gospel promises us the salvation through Jesus. Israelites looked up and were saved. We are invited to look up to Jesus in order to be saved. We are drawn to the darkness and evil naturally, only through grace we can be pulled towards the Light, Jesus. God does not intent to punish us yet he expects us to believe His only Son Jesus to be saved from the eternal punishment.
