It is 05th May 2015. The readings are from Acts.14:19-28 and the Gospel from Jn.14:27-31a. The first reading narrates the humiliations and hardships of St. Paul. The same people in Lystra who wanted Paul and Barnabas to be gods wanted to stone them to death. Paul went near to the jaws of death. But they were persistent in preaching the Good News, never reduced their zeal and all the more they visited the cities where they were once about to be stoned and detested. It was the commitment of Paul, Barnabas and the apostles made the church to grow so popular. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.” (Acts. 14:22). The responsorial Psalm acclaims, “Your friends, O Lord, shall make known the glorious splendour of your reign.” (Ps.144:12). The Gospel promises us the peace of Jesus for all those who follow Jesus. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (Jn. 14:27). The peace of Jesus is the confident assurance in any situation and there is no need to fear anything or anyone. It is the Holy Spirit who fills us with Christ’s peace. The destroyer of peace of Christ is Satan, the prince of this world. Satan lost the battle with Christ Jesus yet His arrogance and pride to destroy our peace is noticed around the believers. Satan has no power us when we truly committed to Jesus and His work. “For the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me…” (Jn. 14:30). Let us not only spend our energies and resource to fight the evil but also to channelize all that we have for the service of Jesus. May you have a peaceful day.
