It is 12th May 2015. The readings are from Acts. 16:22-34 and the Gospel from Jn.16:5-11. In the first reading, Paul and Selas faced hostility in Philippi, a Roman colony. The law-makers stripped them naked, lashed them and put them in prison. The missionaries were singing and praising God in the prison. No matter what our situation is we must learn to sing and praise God. We are invited to have such a missionary spirit, full commitment and dedication to the Word of God. God broke open their chains and prison through an earth quake. The jailor who witnessed all these expressed his desire to become a Christian. “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They told him, ‘Become a believer in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, and your household too.” (Acts.16:30,31). The Responsorial Psalm sings, “You stretch out your hand and save me, O Lord.” (Ps.137:7). The Gospel presents the coming of the Holy Spirit. “Unless I go, the Advocate will not come to you.” (Jn.16:7). Ignoring Jesus and refusing to believe in Jesus is sin. The Advocate, one who is coming to help us is the one will make us to understand the sin and what the damage the sin has done to Jesus. The Holy Spirit reveals to us the idea of sin and its influence in our lives. The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins and calling us for repentance. The Holy Spirit reveals the plan of God for us. The Holy Spirit demonstrates the power of God’s judgement. “When Holy Spirit comes, He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and judgement.” (Jn.16:8). The Holy Spirit condemns the prince of this world Satan and He condemns anything in us from the evil one. May we communicate with the Spirit of God, so as to enjoy peace and joy.
