It is 28th May 2015. We celebrate the feast of our Lord Jesus Christ the High Priest. This feast was instituted by Pope Pius XI. The readings are from Is.52:13-53:12; Heb.10:12-23 and the Gospel from Lk. 22:14-20. The first reading is the fourth song of the servant songs, which describes the servant as the one who suffers. A servant who suffers and dies for the atonement for the sins. Jesus, the suffering servant died for our sins. The second readings assures us that we have a High Priest to cleanse us from all guilt. “Since we have a high priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings.” (Heb. 10:21,22). The Gospel presents the Last Supper. Holy mass is the gracious moment to encounter Jesus the eternal High Priest as the victim and the meal. We too are invited to recall the invitation to participate in the priesthood of Jesus during our Baptism. Jesus is our model and motivator to be the priest to suffer for someone, lead the others to God and to become a sacrifice for the rest of the humanity. We need to pray for our priests. Pope Pius XI said, “The priest does not belong to himself, as he does not belong to his relatives and friends, nor even to a particular country: the charity he has to breathe must be universal. His very thoughts, his desires, his sentiments, are not his own: they belong to Christ, who is his life. May the Lord help us to deepen our commitments with Christ. May you have a good day.
