It is 31st May 2015. It is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday. The readings are from Deut.4:32-34, 39-40. Rom. 8:14-17 and the Gospel from Mt. 28:16-20. The mystery of the most Holy Trinity is a basic doctrine of faith in Christianity, understandable not with our heads but with our hearts. The doctrine teaches that there is One God in Three distinct and equal Divine Persons sharing the same divine nature. The Trinity is profound mystery of unity and diversity. The Old Testament era is guided by the Father. The New Testament time is the time of the Son and the post gospel period is of the Holy Spirit. The most vital and difficult dogma of the Church is the Holy Trinity. The first reading describes the mighty power and love of God as Father to the people of Israel. “Has any people ever heard the voice of a god speaking out of a fire, as you have heard, and lived?” (Duet.4:33). God the Father loves us and cares for us whenever we face challenges and difficulties. Long life comes by obeying the voice of the Lord. The second reading encourages us to believe that we are no longer a slave but the children of God through the Spirit. “When we cry ‘Abba! Father! It is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” (Rom. 8:15,16). The responsorial Psalm prays, “Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.” (Ps.33:12). The most powerful presence and pattern of the Holy Trinity – God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit is used in every Baptism of a Christian. “Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them any disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” (Mt. 28:19). May the Lord help us accept the mystery of the Trinity and follow their guidance in our lives.
