It is 19th June 2015. The readings are from 2 Cor.11:18, 21-30 and the Gospel from Mt. 6:19-23. The first reading brings out the personal attitudes of St. Paul against the false teachers. In order to save the Corinthians slipping away to the false teachers, he presented his credentials to counteract. St. Paul was angry about the false teachers how they deceived the people with their deceptions and lies. Unlike the false teachers, St. Paul sacrificed his own life for the Gospel. All that we are willing to go through for Christ and His Gospel build a strong character, deepen our faith and willingness to serve the Lord all the more. St. Paul went through so much for Christ in order to bring the message of Christ. Without a personal sacrifice, dedication and commitment for Jesus, we cannot be a true disciple. What have you gone through for Christ in your own situation? The responsorial Psalm prays, “The Lord rescues the just in all their distress.” (Ps.33:18). The Gospel invites us to look up our treasure where it is hidden. We store up treasures in Heaven by our good works. We need to do good for the sake of doing good without reward. When we expect rewards for the good we do, we contradict the purpose of God and tend to become selfish. Our only reward is God alone for being good and doing good. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Mt. 6:21). Jesus invites us to have a spiritual vision which would make us to see as God sees. When the selfish desires cloud our visions and perceptions, we begin to notice the darkness all around us. “But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.” (Mt. 6:23). We need to ask God to help us to clear our vision free of prejudices. A good eye is the one that is fixed on God. Our vision gets clearer by our humble service to the Lord. May the Lord bless you.
