It is 30th August 2015. It is the 22nd Sunday of the Ordinary Time. The readings are from Deut.4:1-2, 6-8; Jm.1:17-18, 21b-22, 27; and the Gospel from Mk. 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23. The First reading invites us to have a right relationship with God through following God’s commandments. God expects a certain amount of fidelity from us. The law of God unites us and calls us back from the sinful living to holy life. It is through the adherence of God’s law, we get wisdom, pride and protection. “For what great nation is there that has gods so close to it as the Lord, our God is to us whenever we call upon him?” (Deut.4:7). An authentic religion is built on genuine relationships not just by the rituals. We must never become self-righteous rather self-giving. The responsorial Psalm prays, “The one who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord.” (Ps.15:1). In the second reading, St. James reminds us what is true religion is: “to care for orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” (Jas.1:27). Our listening to the Word of God not only to purify ourselves but also add flavour of love to all less fortunate than we are. The Gospel sternly warns us to be careful about our tradition-addicted spiritual habits over human care and love. What we require is the purity and simplicity of heart to bring the best of our hearts. It is all about inside than the outside. The sins which disconnect us from God are sexual immorality, thefts, murders, adultery, lust, and the wickedness of heart are lying, immodesty, jealousy, pride, and folly. Our worship must lead us to the heart of people always. “Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that person; but the things that come out from within are what defile.” (Mk.7:20). May God bless you to be a person of heart to render service to God and people. Have a good day.
