It is 17th October 2015. We celebrate the memorial of St. Ignatius of Antioch, the Bishop and Martyr. The readings are from Rom. 4:13, 16-18 and the Gospel from Lk.12:8-12. The first reading explains the faith of Abraham. Faith is the total surrender to God. Faith is to know, love and serve God. God becomes the meaning of our existence. Faith means trust in God without prejudices and indeed a free gift to all. The responsorial Psalm sings, “The Lord remembers his covenant forever.” (Ps.104:8). In the Gospel, Jesus instructs the importance of the Holy Spirit in our lives. In times of trials and temptation to deny Christ, we must not lose focus and connection with the Holy Spirit. It is the Spirit of God who guides us in the path we must walk. Being deaf and blind to the Spirit of God is the unpardonable blasphemy. We are sure to fall without the help of Holy Spirit. No way can we lead our Christian life distancing ourselves from the Holy Spirit. God’s Spirit gives us the right words and thoughts when we are faced with the situations and people, we have to be answerable. “When they take you before synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how to defend yourselves or what to say, because when the time comes, the Holy Spirit will teach you what you must say.” (Lk.12:12). May the Lord give you peace.
