It is 19th October 2015. The readings are from Rom.4:20-25 and the Gospel from Lk.12:13-21. The first reading gently reminding us that Abraham’s faith in God granted him the power to travel towards the promise land. God does not go back in God’s promises. Without faith we too cannot reach Heaven. Our faith in Jesus truly matters to accomplish the impossible things in our lives. Faith is indeed all powerful to make us leap into darkness. Faith goes beyond where our reason has a hesitation to enter. It is this faith that makes us acceptable to God. The responsorial verse prays, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel! He has visited his people.” (Lk.1:68). The Gospel claims that our true and total security is God. There is a quarrel due to money everywhere starting from our families to the churches. People begin to look down or look up on others on the basis of money. When money comes, thirst for power, pleasure and false security accompany. There is so much money is spent on security whether it is domestic or international yet human beings feel unsecured. Our walls and fences have broadened and sophisticated while our relationships have been thinned and uncivilized. Death is the only teacher that reminds us that our material and human security cannot accompany us till the end. Jesus teaches us today that God is our security for time immemorial. “Watch, and be on your guard against greed of any kind, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.” (Lk.12:15). May God give you peace.
