It is 23rd October 2015. The readings are from Rom. 7:18-25a and the Gospel from Lk.12:54-59. The first reading brings out clearly the division within ourselves. We all wish to do good yet the evil pulls us apart by surprise. We do the things we truly hate to do. “For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do.” (Rom.7:19). Sin has a home in us. God wants us to be good because of God’s spirit is at work in us. There is a law of sin operating in a rhythm. We might end up being a prisoner to this polarization of sin in us. Yes the Law helps us yet not totally. The Law does not reduce the violence of sin in us. Who then can help us in the ocean of sin and division of heart? It is Jesus Christ and Him alone can pull us out of this contrdiction of our spirit. Our love for Calvary and time to be near the Cross of Jesus is the only remedy for this. May we approach Jesus daily through the Holy Eucharist to deal with our sins. The responsorial Psalm instructs us, “Lord, teach me your statutes.” (Ps.118:68). The Gospel invites us to be alert, knowledgeable and discerning. We are all good in predicting things of this world not of our inner struggle. We need to make the right decision. The right decision is not to engaging in life of predictions rather we need to enter into the life of promise which is in Jesus and in His message. May the Lord give you peace.
