It is 10th November 2015. We celebrate the memorial of St. Leo the Great. The readings are from Wis.2:23-3:9 and the Gospel from Lk.17:7-10. The first reading reminds us that God promises a special blessing of being with God when we are faithful to Him. As we are remembering the souls in Purgatory in this month, we are rejuvenated in our belief to live with God. “They who trust in God will understand the truth, those who are faithful will live with God in love; for grace and mercy await those God has chosen.”(Wis.3:9). The responsorial Psalm prays, “I will bless the Lord at all times.” (Ps.33:2). The Gospel challenges us to be humble. We are invited by Jesus to be the models of kindness and love not an outright critique of others. It is very human to expect others to recognize and to appreciate us. At times, we will never be appreciated by others, yet we must do our duty as though that is the noble thing to do. Many will not even recognize our good works because of their personal hatred and prejudice towards us yet we must not be tired of doing good. We need to work on our issues of controlling others and bossing over others. Pride kills goodness in people. By doing good diligently, we are finding our own worth. We will know that it is our vocation to do good as a human person. “We are merely servants: we have done no more than our duty.” (Lk.17:10). Let us become a selfless servants in all we do.
