It is 11th December 2015. The readings are from Is. 48:17-19 and the Gospel from Mt.11:16-19. The first reading clarifies that our happiness would be better when we obey the commandments of the Lord. It all depends on our response to God in keeping the laws of God. The blessings of peace and integrity is reserved to all those who obey God. “If only you had been alert to my commandments, your happiness would have been like a river, your integrity like the waves of the ocean.” (Is.48:18). The responsorial Psalm prays, “Anyone who follows you, Lord, will have light of life.” Ps.1:12). The Gospel warns people who do not take the Prophets and Jesus seriously. Luke warmness, indifference to God and judgmental approaches to spiritual matters are the attitudes we see even today among us when it comes to encountering the realities of spiritual life. Spiritual blindness makes us to see what we desire but not what God wants us to notice in our lives. This behavior sets into ourselves gradually and encroaches of our spiritual space. We begin to display a certain amount of childish superficiality and beginning to befriend the world of unreality. We spend all our spiritual energy labelling others while ignoring our spiritual discomfort. Some of us even go to the extent of naming people and shaming them with the blanket of spiritual fabrics. “Yet, Wisdom has been proved right by her actions.” (Mt.11:19). May God bless you.
