It is 15th December 2015. The readings are from Zephaniah 3:1-2, 9-13 and the Gospel from Matthew 21:28-32. In the first reading God promises the people of Israel that God will go out of God’s way to clean up the personal lives. But the people of Israel remained stubborn, self-willed and rebellious. They found it hard to listen, learn and to trust God. A handful of people were trusting in God and doing the will of God. The people pretended to worship God and rejected God in their heart just like those who never believed God. They did not worry about the consequences of not turning to God. God intends to purify the way we interact with one another during the Advent. Those who are meek and humble, physically and spiritually will be rewarded because of their trust in God. The responsorial Psalm praises, “This poor man called, the Lord heard him.” (Ps.33:7). The Gospel focuses on our promises that made to God. Just like the son in the Gospel, we begin to say ‘yes’ to God while we did not mean what we said. Our promises to God must not be fancy, phony and pretentious. Our intentions have to be pure and sincere while making the promises to God. We have promised to change during the Advent, and do we mean it? Let our words match our actions. May God bless you to follow God always.
