It is 24th December 2015. The readings are 2 Sam7:1-5, 8b-12, 14a, 16 and the Gospel from Lk.1:67-79. The first reading talks about the embarrassment of David being in the palace while the Ark of God dwelt in tent. Through Nathan, God wanted to tell David that God is not looking for an abode made out of human hands rather to be present every space of human existence. God promises David that his throne is given to Jesus, the Messiah. The responsorial Psalm praises, “I will sing forever of your love, O Lord.” (Ps.88:2). The Gospel proclaims the Benedictus – a hymn of praise for God by Zechariah. He praises and blesses God telling God has come to help God’s people and raising up one from the house of David. He praises God for God’s fidelity in offering us the messiah and the role John the Baptism going to play for Jesus. “To give God’s people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins; By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” (Lk.1:77-79). As we are so much looking forward in meeting our God in the manger, may we all experience the birth of our redemption. As the people of Israel longed for a Messiah to redeem, regroup and protect them, may we too meet Christ Jesus to reshape, direct and design a spiritual spectrum on the day of Christmas and beyond. Have a joyful day.
