It is 10th January 2016. We celebrate the feast of the Baptism of the Lord. The readings are from Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11; Titus 2:11-14, 3:4-7; and the Gospel from Luke 3:15-16, 21-22. Baptism of Jesus is the third Epiphany of the Lord. The Baptism of the Lord is recorded in all four gospels. The first reading reminds us that the promised Messiah is the chosen servant of Yahweh, who is filled with the Holy Spirit, establish justice to all, will not force his values on people, and He will be modest and gentle in dealing with the people. The responsorial Psalm sings, “Bless the Lord, my soul.” (Ps.104:1). The second reading assures that our baptism is a gift of God to us. God has come among us to give us the salvation through baptism. The gospel narrates the baptism of the Lord at the river Jordan. As Jesus emerged from the waters of His Baptism, the Heavens opened, and the Spirit descended on Him and the appreciation of the Father: “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” (Lk.3:22). Our baptism is also patterned like that of Jesus. It offers a new relationship with God, a special anointing by the Spirit of God and commissioning us to do the will of God. Our baptism calls for repentance and a public ministry on a daily basis. We become incorporated into the Christian community. We too become the active member of the Body of Christ. God is truly well pleased with the Sacrament of Baptism we received from the Church. The Spirit of God strengthening us whenever we are challenged in our faith encounters. May God bless you to do the will of God. Have a good day.
