It is 11th January 2016. We begin the ordinary time of the year. The readings are from 1Samuel 1:1-8; and the Gospel from Mark 1:14-20. The first reading begins with the last judge in the eleventh century before Christ. The first reading brings out a stark reality of how people behave and treat others when they feel blessed by God. We must never abuse or ill-treat others when we enjoy some benefits from the Lord. Peninnah ignored Hannah for her barrenness. Yet, God fulfils God’s purpose and promise anyway. The responsorial Psalm praises, “A thanksgiving sacrifice I make to you, O Lord.” (Ps.115:17). Jesus begins His mission in the Gospel. Jesus chooses a few to support Him in his work. His message was simple and straight to the heart and life of the people. Jesus uses parallelism. It is the same message Jesus gives to all of us today. “The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is close at hand and therefore repent and believe in the Gospel.” (Mk.1:15). The time to be converted and turn to God in our lives is already due and so we need to make the Gospel as the direction to God. We need to surrender to God and change our minds. Let God be the direction and destination of our spiritual journey. Gospel way of life is the road map to heaven. To live such life, we need to change our minds constantly and consistently towards God. May God give you peace and have a good day.
