It is 26th January 2016. We celebrate the memorials of Saints Timothy and Titus, the Bishops. The readings are from 2 Timothy 1:1-8; and the Gospel from Luke 10:1-9. Titus was given a responsibility to choose leaders for the church in the island of Greece. He taught them to be good. “Promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching.” (Titus 2:1). Timothy was the bishop of the Ephesus and was martyred in AD 97. St. Paul encouraged him to suffer for the sake of the Gospel. “Never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News.” (2 Tim.1:8). We too are encouraged to fan the flame of the Gospel starting from our own person lives spreading to the others. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me — The crown of righteousness.” (2 Tim.4:7-8). The responsorial Psalm sings, “Proclaim God’s marvellous deeds to all the nations.” (Ps.96:3). The Gospel reminds us the urgency for more workers to complete the mission of the Lord in the world. We are called to be the witnesses of love, peace and compassion. Whatever the state we are in, Jesus needs our share in spreading the values of Gospel by word and deed. “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into God’s harvest.” (Lk.10:2). May God help us to be generous and open to do God’s work.
