It is 22nd March 2016. The readings are from Isaiah 49:1-6; and the Gospel from John 13:21-33, 36-38. The first reading speaks about the role of Messiah. The servant of God receives the reassurance from God that He will be the light of the nations and bring the salvation to all the people. “I will give you as a light to the nations that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” (Is.49:6) We too are called to be the light to the rest of the world through our merciful acts along with our faith in Jesus. The responsorial Psalm is the prayer of a man persecuted by his enemies and who seeks the help of God. The Gospel brings the betrayal of Judas and the denial of Peter. The difference between these two men are very few but yet deep. Judas did not return to the Lord after betraying Him. If only he would have repented and gone back to Jesus, his life would have been different. Peter went back to the Lord with his contrite heart and eyes full of tears. The entrance of Satan into the hearts of men cannot be ignored while the personal responsibility of betrayal and denials of ourselves to be taken seriously.. We all have our free will and consequently we make choices which affects our core spiritual self. It is the plan of God that Jesus had to go through this death. Jesus did not stop loving them even after betrayals and denials. No matter what it takes, we must come back to Jesus. However heavy the sin might be, it is good to confess them and get them out of lives. May God bless each one of us to be the light to the nations.
