It is 8th April 2016. The readings are from Acts 5:34-42; and the Gospel from John 6:1-15. The first reading presents the intervention of Gamaliel to avoid yet another miscarriage of justice and the failure of court. Though many did not share his opinion of reprimanding the apostles and let them go free, a sizable number of the Sanhedrin respected his view. Any movement can be fruitful and meaningful in so far as God is with it. The future belongs to God and to those who have faith in Jesus. “If this enterprise, this movement of theirs, is of human origin it will break up of its own accord; but if it does in fact come from God you will not only be unable to destroy them, but you might find yourselves fighting against God.” (Acts.5:38, 39). No one can stop us doing good when God and the risen Lord is on our side. The obstacles and oppositions will give way to the Risen Lord and His values. The apostles accelerated their teaching and preaching to house after house. The responsorial Psalm intercedes God, “There is one thing I ask of the Lord, to live in the house of the Lord.” (Ps.26:4). The Gospel points out that openness to God’s plan and will in our lives brings abundance of blessings from God. It is the miracle of the loaves and fish multiplied. Jesus is greater than Moses performing a miracle not only to satisfy the physical hunger but also the starvation of the soul. Jesus is the Bread of Life. The bread of Life gets multiplied when it is shared. Jesus invites every one of us daily to this Banquet of Love, the Eucharist. Are we going to take the invitation of Jesus seriously or to decline it because we have some other banquets to be attended? The openness to God’s plan of action ends in surplus not in shortage of God’s love, care and mercy. May God bless you to be God’s instrument of love, peace and mercy.
