It is 16th April 2016. The readings are from Acts 9:31-42; and the Gospel from John 6:60-69. The first reading presents two miracles performed by St. Peter with the faith in the Risen Lord. He healed a paralytic for eight year telling: “Aeneas, Jesus Christ cures you; get up and fold up your sleeping mat.” And again, he raised Dorcas and brought her to life. When we allow God to use us as instruments of healing and hope, miracles do happen. God just need our faith to perform such miracles. We can perform the impossible when we place our faith in the Risen Lord completely. The responsorial Psalm offers the gratitude to God for all that God has done singing: “How can I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?” (Ps.115:12). The Gospel invites us to be faithful to Jesus as the believing gets challenged. We cannot fit God into our frames of perception and thoughts. We need to listen to the voice of God and learn to fit in the frame of God. The disciples found it hard to believe the Words of Jesus. “The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” (Jn.6:63). True listening happens in the heart and in the spirit. Jesus urges us to listen to His voice. “Oh, that today you would listen to his voice: ‘Harden not your hearts…’” (Ps 95:7-8) And in another place, Jesus tells: “My sheep hear my voice.” (Jn. 10:27) “You are his people, the sheep of his pasture, if today you listen to his voice.” (Ps 95:8). We need to echo the words of St. Peter: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” (John 6:68). Our faith in Jesus provides the Spirit and life.
