It is the 01st of September 2016. The readings are from 1 Corinthians 3:18-23; and the Gospel from Luke 5:1-11. The first reading advises us that we must be on guard about the wisdom that excludes God and exalts human philosophy. God does not buy the human arguments. God has given us intellect to think and to think correctly. In the process of thinking, we cannot ignore or forget God. If we do, then it is indeed the foolishness of our thoughts. “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are useless.” (1 Cor.3:20). We need to pray for the openness, trust, faith and grace of God. Just because grace perfects our nature and does not destroy it. We are to go on evangelize and humanize as we are called by Christ. The responsorial Psalm prays, “The Lord’s is the earth and its fullness.” (Ps.24:1). The Gospel brings out the call of Simon Peter along with James and John. The acknowledgement of Peter’s unworthiness makes him eligible to respond to the call of Christ. We too need to realize our unworthiness and sinfulness as to feel our vocation to be with Christ and eventually bringing someone for Christ. Even though experiencing the miracles of Jesus in the synagogue and in his own house, St. Peter was far from Jesus. And so, Jesus demands obedience and humility from St. Peter. “Yet, if you say so, I will let down the nets.” (Lk.5:5). When the Lord is pleased with these qualities, He sends out to the others. Even though my human reason tells me otherwise, yet I am willing to obey the words of Jesus brings the desired blessings. May we learn to obey Christ, the Eternal wisdom of the Father. Have a good day.
