It is 19th September 2016. The readings are from Proverbs 3:27-34; and the Gospel from Luke 8:16-18. The first reading teaches us that how to live with our neighbours peacefully. There are five things mentioned which are prohibited in relating with our neighbours. We must not refuse kindness, never to chase someone in need when we have the means to provide, never to plot against another, never to pick up a fight, and wilfully thinking and doing things against the other. In the second part it offers the motives to have good relationship with our neighbours. God not only judges the evil but also the good. With what intention we do good matters for God. God blesses the generous homes that show kindness and reserves God’s blessings on those who wilfully and intentionally creating conditions opposed to peace. The responsorial Psalm prays, “The just will live in the presence of the Lord.” (Ps.14:1). In the Gospel, Jesus tells us in the parable of the lamp that nothing is hidden from God – everything is seen by God. We all have the light of Christ through the Sacrament of Baptism. As the light dispels the darkness, so our life must be the light for the other. By time the light gets dimmed and the surroundings do not allow the light to permeate. So we need to make an effort to keep light burning and to take care of the environment by which others could benefit. We just need to be watchful with what disposition we are allowing the Word of God to penetrate our lives. We must pay attention to listen deeply and understand the power of God in His light revealed in God’s Word. Only by sharing we increase. “So take care how you hear; for anyone who has will be given more; from anyone who has not, even what one thinks he or she has will be taken away.
May the Lord bless you. Let your life shine to glorify God.
