It is 01st October 2016. We celebrate the Memorial of St Thérèse of Lisieux, Virgin and the Doctor of the Church. She is lovingly known as the ‘little flower.’ She lived a very short life as a Carmelite nun who dedicated her life for prayer for missionaries. Her writings were known as ‘the little way. She is the co-patron of the mission. She died very young at the age of 24 of tuberculosis. The readings are from Job 42:1-3, 5-6, 12-17; and the Gospel from Luke 10:17-24. We too begin a new month for our beloved mother Mary. We need to get familiarised praying the rosary as a daily spiritual activity as a Catholic. Rosary is the compendium and the miniature of the Gospels. In contemplating the mysteries of joyful, sorrowful, glorious and luminous, we renew and cement our relationship with Jesus through Mary. Our life is like a garland so meticulously linked in prayer as the rosary is joined together with one bead with the other. Our Christian living will be incomplete without praying the rosary daily. Let us make an extra effort this month to pray the rosary daily before we go to bed no matter how busy we could be. We begin to read the conclusion of the book of Job in the first reading. God rewards and blesses Job for his repentant life. God loves our humility and repentance. However innocent and sinless one could be like Job, yet God expects us to return and resubmit ourselves in humility and prayer. “The Lord blessed the latter days of Job’s life more than his first.” (Job.42:12). The sufferings are the purifying river; by its very current, we are purified and made worthy to encounter God and to be participants of the blessings of God. “The suffering of the present time cannot be compared to the glory that is to be revealed in us.” (Rom.8:18). The responsorial Psalm prays, “Let your face shine on your servant, O Lord.” (Ps.118:135). The Gospel teaches us to be humble in our service. There is nothing to be boastful about our mission for Christ. Are our connections and relationships with Christ in tact in all we do and say?
