It is 7th December 2016. We celebrate the memorial of St Ambrose, the Bishop and the Doctor of the Church. His intellectual contributions in the administration of the Church at large was remarkable. He was the spiritual instrument for the return of St. Augustine to his faith. The readings are from Isaiah 40:25-31; and the Gospel from Matthew 11:28-30. The first reading is the poem on the greatness and majesty of God to strengthen those who were weary and tired from the exile. The prophet points out the wisdom and knowledge of God over God’s creation. There is nothing hidden for God. The consolation and peace comes from the Lord and God alone revives our drooping spirit. The exile, the pain and the suffering would come to an end but God’s love for God’s people is everlasting and eternal. “But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Is.40:31) The responsorial Psalm sings, “My soul, give thanks to the Lord.” (Ps.102:1). The Gospel invites us to put all our trust in Jesus we find our solace and strength. Yes, we all have our burdens to carry. When we know that there is someone has promised to lighten the burden, it makes a big difference. Jesus does make that significant difference by carrying our burdens on his shoulders. Jesus has made the sacrifice enveloped in authentic love. We will never be tired and weary again, as long as we walk with Jesus. The rest and rejuvenation comes from Jesus. We are indeed tired because of our sins and selfish choices we have made in our lives. Let us turn to the Lord one more time. “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Mt.11:28, 29). Have a good day.
