It is 6th May 2017. The readings are from Acts 9:31-42; and the Gospel from John 6:60-69. Peace began to flow into the Church after the martyrdom of Stephen and the persecution and conversion of Paul. The first reading sketches out the environment and the activities that brought about peace in the church. The healing ministries of St. Peter and other apostles brought peace into the Church. Every spiritual effort and ministry such as healing, living for Christ and working for the Lord without expectations offers us the gift of the Holy Spirit in the form of peace. The works and ministry we do in the Church and for the Church does not bring out peacefulness right within us and around us, there is something seriously at stake the way we serve and minister. When we allow God to use us as God’s instrument, peace of Christ flows from our actions and word. If our preaching, teaching, healing and serving does not produce peace, and creating division, tensions and problems, we must examine our intentions of our service to the Lord and the people of God. “The Churches throughout enjoyed peace, building themselves up, living in the fear of the Lord, and filled with the consolation of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts.9:31). The responsorial Psalm praises, “How can I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?” (Ps.115:12). Yes, indeed we have received a lot from the Lord so far, how are we going to pay Him back. We all still owe the Lord our gratitude. The Gospel presents us with the effect of the Holy Eucharist on those who experienced it as a core believer and those who are novices in their faith endeavours. We do not just place our trust in a bunch of documents and dogmas rather in the Person of Jesus Christ. He is our inspiration and inscription of our faith. There is no one out there except the Lord Jesus. “Lord, who shall we go to? You alone have the message of eternal life.” (Jn. 6:69). Even if we have difficult in believing in the Eucharist Lord, it is good to ask the guidance of the Spirit of God to lead us to Jesus and help us to believe Him and trust Him totally.
