It is 23rd October 2017. We celebrate the memorial of St. John of Capistrano. The readings are from Romans 4:20-25; and the Gospel from Luke 12:13-21. In the first reading, St. Paul continues to share his conviction on the doctrine of justification telling we are justified by faith in Jesus through God’s grace. What we are and what we have is by the grace of God. When we fail to recognize the grace of God, we truly become greedy, selfish, self-centered and not willing to think about our relationship with God and one another. God will not ignore our faith in His beloved Son Jesus. As God honoured Abraham for his unwavering faith in Him, so God will bless us when live our faith and willing to share. The responsorial Psalm acclaims, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; he has come to his people.” (Lk.1:68). In the Gospel Jesus admonishes us, “”Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” (Lk.12:15). Our demand for justice must not exclude, discriminate, and deprive other people. The authentic justice is to be in good relationship with God and everyone. God has blessed us with so much of material abundance not to be used for ourselves only. God expects us to share what we have received from him. Where is there is no place for our surrender and faith in God, we tend to become selfish.
