It is 24th February 2018. The readings are from Deuteronomy 26:16-19; and the Gospel from Matthew 5:43-48. God wants a very special connection and a blessing on us as long as we are able to lean on the commandments and to follow them. Everlasting happiness is obtained and reached only by the adherence of the Commandments of God. These are indeed fundamental demands made by a loving God from us. Our love for God must not cease in emotions only rather it needs to transcend to a level of deep determination and conviction to be faith to God. We are people of God just because of our familiarity and the willingness to follow the commandments of love. It is our sincere openness and unwavering commitment to the Law of the Lord consecrates us daily. It is not just enough to memorize them and stick them on the walls rather it has to become the path and direction of our mere existence. The responsorial Psalm praises, “They are happy who follow God’s law!” (Ps.118:1). In the Gospel, Jesus invites us to reach the moral perfection where compassion plays the vital role. We cannot be satisfied any time of our lives for being compassion. We need to aspire for more and more in showing compassion and mercy to those who abuse us, undermine us, ill-treat us and even persecute us. We reclaim ourselves only by our acts of mercy and compassion. May the Lord help us to adhere the commandments of love by the way we treat others. May you have a good day.
