It is 11th January 2019. The readings are from 1 John 5:5-13; and the Gospel from Luke 5:12-16. Life is the gift from God but the eternal life is the gift for those who believe in Jesus. God wants all of us to participate and enjoy the life that comes through Jesus. God never distanced and disappeared when we go through sickness, pain, anxiety and fear. God participates in our struggles by personal touch and presence in Jesus. The incarnation of Jesus revealed to us the closeness of God in His humanity and in divinity. God manifested as a human person. in the first reading, St. John defends that Jesus is fully divine and fully human; fully God and fully man for which the Spirit, water and blood are witnesses. To accept this profound truth, we need the power of the Holy Spirit. When we have failed to profess our faith in Jesus, we fail to overcome the world. In affirming the humanity of Jesus, we cannot overlook the divinity in Him as God. Jesus as man knows and understands all our weakness and sinfulness. Nothing in us is hidden from His healing gaze. We need to acknowledge the presence of Jesus and plead for His healing touch on those areas invaded by sins. The responsorial Psalm acclaims, “O praise the Lord, Jerusalem.” (Ps.147:12). The Gospel displays the healing power of Jesus. Jesus is interested in healing us no matter however horrible the sickness and uncurable it could be. Do we wish to be healed? Do we believe that Jesus could heal us? Jesus will not force His love, healing and blessings on us. We must have the humility to ask and approach Jesus in times of sickness, doubt and dilemma. Jesus wants to touch us personally as He touched the leper in the Gospel. We all have one sickness or the other. Some of us have some emotional baggage that we cannot carry any longer. We all need the healing touch of Jesus. It is possible for us all only when we acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God. May we recognise the healing presence of Jesus in our lives in order to enjoy the eternal life with God at the end. May you have a good day. God bless you.
