It is 8th April 2019. The readings are from Daniel 13:1-9, 15-17, 19-30, 33-62; and the Gospel from John 8:12-20. Only the light of Christ can dispel all sorts of darkness and disparity in our lives. God does not keep quiet and watch indifferently when we go through pain and have no proof to defend ourselves. When we have not done anything wrong and falsely accused just because we did not collaborate with the evil-doers, be assured that God shields us with the light of truth. As long as the light of truth shines in our souls, no darken evil intentions of any powerful person on earth could destroy our innocence of heart that is holiness. When consciences are corroded by the flames of lust and selfishness, there is no space for truth and justice possible. The lies of the powerful cannot weaken the strength of the God-fearing persons. Truth is the light of our hearts and life. Jesus is the Truth of our souls and beings. The light of the world dims by distance while the light of Christ shines by intimacy with Him. More we stay on in power, swim in money, mingle with the influenced people, we tend to corrupt our consciences with greed, lust, selfishness, lies and dichotomised life. Lack of transparency, accountability and injustice grows and fills our minds where there is no environment for truth and love. When the witnesses of human consciences have become blunt, the truth might be crushed and suppressed and never it can be buried even by the most powerful persons on earth. Justice begs for mercy at the doors of truth in every turn of our lives. Even the systems that protects and promotes truth are under the scanner of truth when there are questions about the integrity of truth. The dispenser of truth is not the owner of the Truth. God alone holds the truth and God does not compromise with anyone to dispense the truth. The first reading demonstrates the power of truth in life of Susanna. Infatuation blinds the judges and they threaten to accuse Susanna for not cooperating with their evil intentions. She called on God when the custodians of truth contaminated the flavours of truth. God establishes the truth with the instrumentality of Daniel (whose name denotes God is my judge) and saved Susanna from shame. We do not need to panic when someone accuses us for what we have not done. The lies and false accusations only strengthen the foundations of truth in us all the more when we are harassed unjustly. Only with the light of Christ, we can be impartial, just, truthful and fair in we do and say. we need not be living in anxiety all the time and living in fear of being ill-treated and abused by the weakened filaments of lies. The responsorial Psalm prays, “Though I walk in the valley of darkness I fear no evil, for you are with me.” (Ps.22:4). The Gospel portrays Jesus as the Light of the world. “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (Jn.8:12). Yes, indeed He is the light of the world, is He the light of our souls, minds and life too? No darkness in the world or else where can hide the voluminous glory of Christ light. We are invited to come closer to the light of Christ as we approach the end of the Lenten time. May we allow the light of Jesus to fall upon us to dispel all darkness and lies from our life. Our faith in Jesus is the proof of allowing the light of Christ to shine. May you have a good day as God is fighting against all those lies and calumny people throw on us unjustly. May God bless you.
