It is 10th January 2020. The readings are from 1 John 5:5-13 and the Gospel from Luke 5:12-16. With the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, one needs to confess the divinity and humanity of Jesus in order to be baptised. Those who acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God will never be ignored by God. God makes everything possible for the one who believes and confesses Jesus as the Lord and Saviour to enter into the eternal life. “God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever possesses the Son has life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not have life.” (1 Jn.5:12). We can overcome anything in this world with the one who has already overcome the world. The responsorial Psalm praises, “Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.” (Ps.147:12). When sins, challenges and difficulties engulf us, we find it hard to come near God. But in His graciousness and goodness, comes closer to us to heal us and make us whole. God is not ashamed of us even when we are reduced by sickness and sadness that pop up in our lives. We cannot overcome the challenges without the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit and the Most Holy Eucharist. Saint Augustine describes the abundant love of God in the following lines: “We were unable to go to the doctor, therefore the doctor had the graciousness to come to us.” The Gospel we encounter Jesus who is more than willing to cure a man with leprosy. “ Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, “I do will it. Be made clean.” And the leprosy left him immediately.” (Lk.5:13). Whatever the challenges we face in our life today, let us face it with Jesus. Nothing is impossible for Jesus who wishes to cure our sickness. May you have a good day. God bless you.
