It is 18th June 2020.
The readings are from Sirach 48:1-14; and the Gospel from Matthew 6:7-15.
Life is a garland of flowers. Its fragrance lasts beyond its freshness. Face of the person might vanish from our minds not their loving and caring actions from our being. Indifference and criticism are lashed upon a person when one is alive and active but a garland of praises and admiration are showered at the earthly departure. There is a selective procrastination in admitting the good in others until they are around. The first reading describes the glorious works of Elijah and Elisha. The author lists the acts that brought out the presence and power of God in the lives of these two inspiring prophets. Goodness of a person lives beyond the recognition and appreciation of the other. Aroma of a good life heals the wounds of the sinful and suffering humanity. “When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.” (Jn.15:8).
The responsorial praises, “Rejoice in the Lord, you just!” (Ps. 97:12)
In the Gospel, Jesus teaches the way to connect with the Father-God.
Everyone is a prayer warrior as long as we have the privilege to address God as Father. Some of us who have issues our biological father finds it challenging to accept God, the Father.
Prayer is an acknowledgement of God’s presence in our life and a recognition with appreciation of God’s timely intervention.
Prayer is not for God but for us to express our love for God and discern the will and plan of God. If our prayer life does not bring us closer to the life of the poor and the needy, then we have distanced ourselves from the Father who loves and cares.
Wordy and long prayers take time to reach the abode of God.
Prayer purges away all the sediments that muddy the relationship with God and the other.
Our prayer needs to be enveloped with our humble service to the humanity especially feeding the hungry, healing the wounds of body and mind by forgiving and receive forgiveness from others.
May our life sing the praises of God not only during our life time and life after. May you have a good day. God bless you.
