Good morning good people, May the Lord give you peace and blessings in the Holy Spirit.
It is 23rd October 2025. We reflect on Romans 6:19-23; and the Gospel from Luke 12:49-53. We celebrate the memorial of Saint John of Capistrano, who teaches us: “Those who are called to fight for the faith must first burn with the love of God; then they will enkindle others.”
Today’s readings are full of paradox. In the first reading, St. Paul continues to encourage us to believe that we are servants of God who are promised eternal life. God offers us the free gift of redemption when we remain faithful in serving Him. Love for God sanctifies and purifies us to do things that may seem humanly illogical.
We all know that being servants of sin brings shame, guilt, and death. When the wage of sin is death, there is a far greater reward for being servants of God — to enjoy eternal life in Jesus Christ. Our lasting happiness and blessings come from the love of God. We are freed from the slavery of sin by the power of love demonstrated on the Cross of Jesus.
There is nothing we need to be ashamed of, however horribly we may have fallen in our spiritual life. There are abundant grace and the strength to live a life of holiness that endures until we meet God face to face.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 6:23)
The responsorial Psalm praises, “Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.” (Ps. 40:5)
Life without Christ makes no sense. We are killing ourselves slowly and surely when we refuse to live for God and for others. It is not just physical death but eternal death — the death of love, life, and truth. Such a life makes a person miserable and without loyal friends.
The fire of love placed within each of us is never too small to experience the flames of the Holy Spirit, who can ignite the entire world through us when we allow ourselves to be instruments of God. There is a clear distinction between having Christ in our lives and living without Him.
“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” (Lk. 12:49)
Let us fan the flame within each one of us and set the world on fire with love. Jesus loves us — let us pass it on.
