The angels work together for the benefit of us all.

Good morning, good people. May the Lord give you peace in the Holy Spirit. Today is 2nd October

Good morning, good people.

May the Lord give you peace in the Holy Spirit.

Today is 2nd October 2025, and we celebrate the Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels.

The readings are from Exodus 23:20-23 and the Gospel from Matthew 18:1-5, 10.

St. Bernard of Clairvaux once said: “Make friends with the angels, who though invisible, are always with you. Often invoke them, constantly praise them, and make good use of their help and assistance in all your temporal and spiritual affairs.”

A teacher once asked her students to bring something that best expressed love. One student brought a rose, another brought a candle. But a little child returned empty-handed. When asked why, she said: “I saw the rose and I saw the candle burning. But I left them as they were — because love lets beauty be. Love does not grasp, it gives space.” The teacher smiled and said: “That is true love — it protects, it guards, it allows life to flourish.”

In the same way, the Guardian Angels are the symbols of true love.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (No. 336) teaches: “From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life. Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God.”

St. Thomas Aquinas reminds us: “The angels work together for the benefit of us all.”

Indeed, throughout the Scriptures we see the protective role of angels — in the life of Tobit, Daniel (Dan 10), Peter (Acts 12:6-10), and even in the life of Jesus Himself.

We often pray:

“Angel of God, my guardian dear,

to whom God’s love commits me here,

ever this day be at my side,

to light and guard, to rule and guide.”

In the first reading, God tells His people: “See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared” (Ex. 23:20). Our part is to listen carefully to their guidance and to trust their silent whispers.

The Psalm assures us: “The Lord has commanded his angels to keep you in all your ways.”

Jesus Himself says: “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father” (Matt. 18:10).

And again: “Are they not all ministering spirits sent to serve, for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?” (Heb. 1:14).

“For to his angels he has given command about you, that they guard you in all your ways” (Ps. 90:11).

May we allow ourselves to be guided by our Guardian Angels, until the day we are brought safely into Heaven.  Have a blessed day. God bless you.
