May the Lord grant you peace, health, and happiness in the Holy Spirit.
It is 24th July 2024. We reflect on Jeremiah 1:1, 4-10 and Matthew 13:1-9.
Have we responded God’s call?
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jer.1:5). The call of Jeremiah echoes in every one of us with the most assuring God’s Word.
“In everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the first-born among many brethren” (Rom 8,28-29).
God calls everyone to sow the seeds of love, hope, peace, and holiness, wherever we are. God called Jeremiah to be the prophet of Israel to lead them closer to God.
Everything went well with Jeremiah at the beginning until King Josiah died; corruption and lethargy in spiritual life gripped the hearts and lives of people and made them less productive spiritually.
Just like the prophet, we continue to sow the Word of God no matter is the response given by the soil.
Listening to the Word is indeed a gift and it is given to us with the purpose of its extended fruition beyond on.
A deep listening to the voice of the Lord allows us to hear the cry of the poor and those in mental and spiritual agony and warfare.
Rejection and suffering are the immediate response to every attempt we make in spreading the Good News. We all still owe a fruitful response to prophetic invitation by God. Being reluctant, resistant, and refusing the offer of God, we align with the injustice and evil around us. By constantly rooting and rerouting our lives in the Word of God, we realise and respond to the prophetic mission that is entrusted to all of us.
Jesus prepares the hearts of the disciples to be open in the event of opposition and resistance.
Not everyone has a perfect mindset, and conditions to be fruitful. Some struggle and some others do not have the provisions to be fruitful, yet we continue sowing.
Our hyper criticism and constantly finding fault with others make us to seclude rather than include others in the circle of love.
May we always cooperate with God in sowing God’s Word. God bless you.
