It is 28th October 2023. We celebrate the Feast of Saints Simon and Jude the Apostles. These two are the tenth and the eleventh apostles in the order of the Apostles. St.Simon the Zealot is the patron of tanners while the Jude is the patron of lost causes. He is well known as the “saint of last resort,” when every spiritual effort is failed, one could get things done through the unfailing intercession of St. Jude.
We reflect on Ephesians 2:19-22; and the Gospel from Luke 6:12-19.
St. Paul instructs that the Church is founded on the Apostles. The faith of the apostles and their lives are indeed a sure foundation to our own faith. Jesus is the centre of our all faith. When we live in peace and harmony with one another, we begin to have a link that is unbreakable through the apostolic foundations.
The church is not built on a calculated set of ideas rather on the traditions and the deposit of faith of the Apostles. “In Jesus, you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by God’s Spirit.” (Eph.2:22).
In the Gospel we encounter the Lord who chooses His apostles. Jesus spent a quality time with God in personal prayer before choosing them. We need to approach the throne of God’s Mercy for clarity before we decide anything in life.
No matter even if the decision would go wrong a bit still it works for the better towards the plan of God as we see in the selection Judas Iscariot. In decision making, we must consider all the possibilities along with the least and the ordinary people and things. Jesus believed in the ordinary persons to an extraordinary mission.
Jesus wanted the variety and diversity in building God’s dwelling place on earth. Let us include everyone on board no matter how insignificant they look to us. In order to have the open and inclusive mind set of Jesus, we need to pray deeply.
Our prayers cannot control God, but we can put everything under control in prayer.
May you have day full of blessings. God bless you.
