Dear People of God,
Reading are taken from Heb 1:1-6; Gospel Mk. 1:14-20
It is 12th January, Monday of the First Week in Ordinary Time. The first reading from Hebrew reveals to us that Jesus, the Son of God is the final revelation and the last Word God has spoken to us. Yes, in the past God spoke through our ancestors and prophets. But now at the end of times, God spoke through His beloved Son Jesus. This letter stresses the importance of the elevation of Jesus above all the angels so as to remind us His heavenly priesthood. Jesus is God and not an angel. “Let all God’s angels worship Jesus.” (Heb. 1:6) Jesus is the priest, one who purifies us from our sins and resides in the heavenly sanctuary with the Father. In the Responsorial Psalm, we read, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” Today’s Gospel once again proclaiming the need for a change of our ways and believe in the Good News. “The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God has come near; Repent, and believe in the Good News.” (Mk. 1:15). Jesus is the Good News we need to believe in order to change. Spiritual change cannot happen without the presence and belief in Jesus. It is by responding to Jesus, when He calls us by our name. Jesus calls the First four disciples in the Gospel. What we witness in the disciples is lack of preparation and absence of interests because Jesus was so attractive as the Messenger and the Message. They left everything and followed Jesus. The discipleship was so costlier than their livelihood. How are we going to respond today, when Jesus calls us? May God bless you.
