It is 17th January 2015. The readings are from Heb. 4:12-16 and the Gospel is from Mk. 2:13-17. We remember St. Anthony of Egypt, who is the saint to intercede for us to get cure from skin diseases. The first reading recommends that the Word of God must not be disregarded by us. The Word of God will never return to God without its impact on us. (Is. 55:11). We all need to face the Word of God one day in our lives because it has life. It lives and recreates energy for the spiritual life. Word of God is the fuel for any spiritual renewal and reawakening in us. It is effective when people of God take the Word seriously. Before we face God face to face, we need to encounter the Word of God. The Word of God reconnects the body and soul; it strips our being naked so as to face the Truth, that is God. It is good to approach God through His powerful Words. We cannot hide anything before the Word of God. It is the sharpest tool which can slice out the unwanted portion in us. Jesus is the Word of God whom we encounter with the tax collectors and sinners in the Gospel. When we have the need for Jesus in our lives, we find him. Those who do not have the need for Jesus will not find him easily. “Healthy people don’t need a doctor, but sick people do. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mk. 2:17). We all require the Word of God in order to follow Jesus. Do we read and assimilate the Word daily? May God bless you. Have a good day.
