It is 18th January 2015. It is the second Sunday in ordinary time. The readings are from 1 Sam 3:3b-10, 19, 1 Cor. 6:13c-15a, 17-20, and the Gospel is from Jn 1:35-42. The first reading presents the call of Samuel in a very personal way. The little boy Samuel responded to God saying, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening.” (1 Sam.3:9). In the Responsorial Psalm, we are responding to the Lord saying, “Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.” (Ps 40:8a & 9a). The second reading explains that our bodies belong to the Lord because it is a temple of the Holy Spirit within us given by God. We are expected to keep our bodies pure and holy. We must be on guard to keep our bodies away from immorality which in itself a worship as well as our vocation. In the Gospel, we encounter Jesus, the Lamb of God. Encountering Jesus in the Eucharist is our Come-and-See experience. Every day, we have the possibility to meet the Lamb of God. Once we have experienced Jesus, we need to share the intimate experience with the others and lead them to Jesus, as Andrew brought Simon to the Lord. God calls us all to participate in His divine life. It is a personal call to everyone to live a life in holiness and to lead others to Jesus. The call of God can be through another human person just like Eli to Samuel, Paul to the Corinthian community, and Andrew to Simon. We need to have an open heart allowing God to operate in our lives. Who brought you to Jesus? Whom did you bring to Jesus so far? May the Lord bless you.
