It is 21st January 2015. The readings are from Heb. 7:1-3, 15-17 and the Gospel from Mk. 3:1-6. We have the memorial of St. Agnes, Virgin and Martyr. Many were eyeing on her beauty and wanted to have her as a wife. Since she refused to cooperate with their intentions, she was unjustly punished and murdered. Because she stood strongly till the end for her chastity and kept her virginity intact for the Lord Jesus, she is revered as the patron saint of chastity, gardeners, girls, engaged couples, rape victims and virgins. The first reading claims that Jesus is the priest in the order of Melchizedek. This king priest had no ancestors and no descendants. He is timeless, for ever age, and eternal. He is the type of Christ. The Responsorial Psalm acclaims once again, “You are a priest for ever, a priest like Melchizedek of old.” In the Gospel, Jesus wants us to be reminded that there is no holiday for doing good. Jesus healed a man with a withered hand on a Sabbath day. Doing good is the top priority of our human existence. “Is it against the law on the Sabbath day to do good, or to do evil, to save life, or to kill?” (Mk. 3:4) Doing good must not be a ritual or a religious compulsion. It must be spontaneous and a human act. We are invited by the High Priest Jesus to do good at all times. Let us be generous in doing good even it takes our personal and leisure time. It is good to go to bed doing at least one good to one human person on a daily basis. What is the good thing you wishing to do today to someone? May you have good day. May God bless you.
