It is 26th January 2015. The readings are from 2 Tim.1: 1-18 and the Gospel from Lk 10:1-9. We are celebrating the memorial of Saints Timothy and Titus, the Bishops. Both were converted by St. Paul and became the companions and helpers of his mission. St. Timothy was looking after the Christians of Ephesus, while Titus spread the Good News in Crete. St. Timothy is invoked against diseases of the stomach. The first reading brings to our attention the qualities of a Church leader. A church leader has to have courage, power, love and self-discipline. St. Paul encourages Timothy to bear witness for the Gospel with the strength that comes from God even though the hardships are inevitable. The Responsorial Psalm rightly intones, “Proclaim God’s marvellous deeds to all the nations.” (Ps.96:3). The Gospel describes about the mission of the seventy and their qualities. A missionary must not put his trust in material things. He/she needs to be focused on the task ahead of him/her. He or she must not do this noble call for material gain. Spreading God’s word is the main objective of those who are called. “The harvest is plentiful, the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.” (Lk.10:2). God is looking for labourers for his vineyard. One thing is praying for labourers for the work of the Lord and another thing is we ourselves volunteering for the work of the Lord. God is looking for peaceful people. God is searching for you because you have the peace of Christ to give to someone who does not have. “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? And I said, “Here I am, send me, Lord.” (Is.6:8). May the Lord bless your generosity and sacrifice. Have a good day.
