It is 06th March 2015. The readings are from Gen. 37:3-4,12-13a,17b-28a and the Gospel from Mt 21:33-43,45-46. The first reading is a story about Joseph, son of Jacob, who was sold for 20 pieces of silver while Christ was sold for 30 silver coins. He is the prototype of Christ’s suffering. This story is a remainder for the families and for us individuals. In our families we still have favouritism towards one child over the others which can be avoidable. Parents may find it hard to change their choice of feelings towards the favourable child, yet, they need to take care of their attitude and actions towards the other children. Individually we need to look at the deep jealousy in our lives towards the others. Our reasoning always try to undermine the effects of jealousy. If we are not going to deal with jealousy seriously, it can lead us to greater sins and destroy our spiritual life quickly. We do not need to dump the ideas, the suggestions and even persons when they provoke us. We cannot overcome God and God’s choice by our jealousy. The Responsorial Psalm praises, “Remember the wonders of the Lord has done.” (Ps.104:5a). The Gospel brings out the power of Jesus’s sacrifice through the parable of the wicked tenants. “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing.” (Mt. 21:42). Jesus and His suffering and saving power become the corner stone for all of us, the church. This one foundational stone is connected to the rest of the stones. We are invited during this Lent to be connected with Christ and His sufferings so as to be cleansed and saved by Him. May you have a blessed day.
