It is 28th March 2015. The readings are from Ezk.37:21-28 and the Gospel from Jn. 11:45-57. The first reading talks about God’s intention to make the covenant of unity. Prophet Ezekiel’s vision for God’s people united as one under one leader. God wanted God’s people to be united and led by a leader after the heart of God. God promised to establish a new covenant. “I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant.” (Ezk.37:26). It is so consoling to hear from God that God is going to be with us. “My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.” (Ezk.37:27). The responsorial Psalm repeats the promise of God, “The Lord will guard us as a shepherd guards his flock.” (Jer.31:10). The Gospel describes about the leaders plot to kill Jesus. The eye witnesses not only rejected Jesus but also intended to murder Him. Their hearts were hardened. “One man to die for the people than the whole nation to perish.” (Jn.11:50). Jesus died for all the people not only for a particular cause, or a particular nation or a particular people. We read further, “And not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one.” (Jn.11:52). People who were divided were unified through the Death of Jesus. One God; One Shepherd; One People. “So one man’s act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all.” (Rom.5:18b). Jesus died for us all; let us emulate Him to sacrifice our life for a good cause.
